How do you engage students who are not interested? My financial literacy class is sometimes a dumping ground for students with holes in their schedules.

It’s hard to get blood from a stone. I have found that when I relate what I am teaching with things going on in my actual life it helps them get more interested. Also, if you can show how doing certain things can get you more money that peaks their interest. If you have a specific example I may be able to help more.

I feel like hands on activities are the best way to engage students. Lecturing may have its place, but I find that any hands on projects or activities students can perform will help engage them. I have used a variety of sites to find hands on activities, including this site. There are several simulations that we do to help as well – stockmarketgame.com and budgetchallenge.com
